St George loses one of its finest - Vale Richard Orton

On 29 January 2020, the St George Australian Football Club lost one of its favourite sons with the passing of Richard Orton.  For as long as most of us can remember RIchard was a fixture at St George, seldom missing a training session, or match day, or a club function of any kind.  As Club Secretary for many years, Richard did significantly more than the role required, and his input and efforts will be sadly missed by players, coaches and officials alike.

Richard's enthusiasm and passion for St George and AFL Football in Sydney was infectious, and left a lasting impression on everyone that entered our clubhouse.  Always up for a laugh and a chat, Richard's capacity for making people feel welcome and valued was unmatched, and his appreciation for the contribution made by club volunteers, inspired many people to give even more generously of their own time and support around the club.

When it came to the history of Aussie Rules in Sydney, and especially in the South, Richard was a vast encyclopedia of knowledge and his passion for the game in our area rubbed off on all of us.  Rest in Peace Richard - the St George Clubhouse at Olds Park will always be a place of welcome and warm regard for the Orton family.
