Prems Trial vs Manly
We arrived at Olds Park keen to take on one of this year’s opponents to see how post Covid training has been going.
As expected, the contest was pretty tight for the first quarter with Saints taking a 10 point lead at quarter time. A highlight of Quarter 1 was seeing Dom Soffe in his return game for the Dragons kick the first goal of the game.
Quarter 2 saw us kicking with the breeze and although dominating possession, the scoreboard impact was not reflective of the way we had control of the game. Keeping an opposition Prems side scoreless at any time is hard but to do it in the second quarter of our first hit out of the year is a great effort. “Back six get …….. “
Quarter 3 we began to exert scoreboard dominance to match the on field dominance. A 5 goal to 1 quarter was a reward for the way we played. Included in the quarter were some passages of play that reflected some of the hard work we have being doing at training. Included in the 5 goals was a first goal to Daniel Sims. And wasn’t it great to see the team get around him and make him feel welcome.
The last quarter was all one sided as we put the pedal down and ran them off their feet, finishing the game with 6 goals in the quarter. Liam Maze got one in his return to the club and Dave Lycakis put his hand up for goal of the year already with a nice effort from the pocket.
Overall, after speaking to the coach, he was delighted with the energy and attitude of the playing group. A number of players have put their hand up for Round 1 selection and are causing headaches for the coaching panel. A nice problem to have.
Can’t wait to get stuck into the real stuff in a couple of weeks.
